The Portland Hospital
The Great Portland Street Hospital, known as The Portland Hospital, is part of HCA Healthcare UK. It is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children.
Last year CBRE advised Amsprop on the sale of 215 Great Portland Street, a prominent corner freehold building single-let to HCA who operate the building as part of their Portland Hospital campus. I was commissioned to photograph the architecture and interior of the building as part of the sale.
215 Great Portland Street is a landmark office and healthcare building originally developed in the 1960’s and comprehensively refurbished and extended in 2008. 34,253 sq ft of pioneering healthcare and high-quality office accommodation is arranged over basement, ground and six upper floors. An expansive roof terrace at 6th floor level provides panoramic views across Regents Park.
The photography was to showcase the property’s close proximity to travel links and its location at the meeting of two of the world’s leading healthcare and research hubs, the Harley Street medical area and London’s Knowledge Quarter.
The interior photography required me to capture everything from the roof terrace with its incredible views, to the treatment rooms with the latest diagnostic technology including the Eosedge Imaging system, the only one of its kind in the UK. I had to organise my schedule around the different departments to ensure that we photographed at an appropriate time with areas such as the Lister fertility clinic and women’s outpatient centre.
The photography brief requested that I supply pictures that show the bright, highly efficient floorplates, along with the technology of the treatment rooms and communal spaces such as the pharmacy and wellbeing lounge.
