Compass Collective Music Marathon

Humanitarian

Compass Collective celebrated the end of 2024 with a Midwinter Music Marathon at the Jago in Dalston with guests including Toby Jones and Ben Miles. There were performances from some incredibly talented musicians from around the world including the refugee and asylum-seeking choir ‘Woven Gold’.

The 12-hour jamming session brought people together through music and the spoken word, celebrating the voices of young creatives seeking asylum in the UK. I was invited to support the event by photographing and capturing the energy throughout the event.

Compass Collective is an award-winning arts charity that assists unaccompanied minor refugees and young people seeking asylum to build resilience successfully integrate into the UK. They achieve this through a variety of projects including creative English language classes, theatre, music, and film projects and professional development programmes. They support approximately 500 young people aged 14-28 a year, in over 28 locations in the UK.

Every year Compass Collective runs an 8-month music project, where young people learn song writing, recording, beats, editing, producing skills at Promised Lands Studios. We are fundraising to continue this work and support more young people to access our programmes.
