24 Hour Shakespeare Marathon
“We will begin these rites,
As we do trust they’ll end, in true delight” – As You Like It
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. As part of this years Refugee Week the Compass Collective organised a 24-hour Shakespeare Marathon on Midsummer, Friday 21st June, at the Scrum in London.
It was an incredible event to be a part of with so much talent in the room including, Toby Jones, Robert Glenister, Freddie Fox, Joanna Davids, Sylversta Le Touzel and Owen Teal, to tackle as many of Shakespear’s plays as possible. I feel proud to have supported the fund-raising event with my photography.
Shakespeare’s exploration of migration, exile, and identity resonates deeply with current refugee issues, highlighting the timeless struggle for belonging and acceptance that many young people face upon arriving in the UK.
Compass Collective organised the event to support young people, to prove that creative communities exist where they can be themselves, thrive, and feel supported. Compass Collective assists unaccompanied minor refugees and young people seeking asylum to build resilience and integrate into the UK through theatre, music and film projects and arts-led professional development programmes.
