DelAgua milestone with its Rwanda Programme

DelAgua is a social enterprise with more than a decade of experience implementing large scale carbon development projects that transform the lives of rural households in the least developed countries across Africa. The Live Well programme exclusively targets rural communities who are otherwise unable to afford the transition to clean cooking. More than 2 million improved cookstoves have been distributed across Rwanda, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.  The programme generates independently verified carbon credits that fund continued scale and innovation.   

I photographed the outset of the programme capturing the traditional cooking methods, distribution days of the cookstoves, education visits by community health workers, and ongoing visits by community health workers to track the performance of the programme. The photography was published in the seminal book “Tubeho Neza – Transforming Lives Through Enterprise” and went on to be a winner at the Sony World Photography Awards.

Verra confirmed the completion of the full Article 6 accounting chain submitted by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) which strengthens the programme. Verra is a global non-profit that sets many of the world’s leading environmental and climate‑action standards, especially in carbon markets and sustainable development.
