King & Spalding’s architectural Staircase

A staircase can be more than just a way to connect floors; it can become a defining feature that enhances both the form and function of a workspace.
At the heart of King & Spalding’s London office stands a breathtaking architectural centrepiece – a sweeping helical staircase that seamlessly connects its employees across all five floors. More than just a striking design feature, this staircase embodies the elegance and precision that define the firm’s workspace.
I was commissioned to photograph the King & Spalding project for Overbury with an emphasis of capturing the feature staircase design. I wanted to show how the staircase is integral to the flow of the space, as well as capturing the design and quality of its construction. My approach was to explore the staircase from top to bottom viewing it from every possible angle and in relation to the space surrounding it.
I felt that it was important to produce a set of images that embody the warmth of the lighting, the beauty of the sculptural form, and the functionality of the design.
The 41,235 sq. ft. office at 8 Bishopsgate has been completely transformed by a team of project partners that includes Overbury, AVI-SPL, bap, Cameron & Payne, Cundall, Cushman & Wakefield, EQUATION Lighting Design, Hoare Lea, Sandy Brown, and TP Bennett.
