Portraits of Resilience at the EEAS, Brussels

Exhibition, Humanitarian, Uncategorised

“Portraits of Resilience” is to be featured at the European External Action Services headquarters in Brussels to mark international day in support of victims of torture.

On the 26th of June, the EU reaffirms its strong commitment to combating torture in reflecting on the significance of the recently adopted Charter of Rights of Victims and Survivors of Torture with the launch of ‘Portraits of Resilience’ as a panel discussion event and photographic exhibition.

The EEAS are partnering with the United Against Torture Consortium to host a conversation between the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Victims and Survivors of Torture, and Jonathan Banks, the author of “Portraits of Resilience”.

“Portraits of Resilience” features photographs of survivors of torture from around the world accompanied with their stories.

Survivors are the strongest and most effective voice in the campaign to abolish torture.

“Portraits of Resilience” is presented in collaboration with British photographer Jonathan Banks, TASSC International, REDRESS, Freedom from Torture and the survivors.

The “Portraits of Resilience” 26 June event serves as a vital reminder of the enduring importance of the Convention Against Torture. It also offers us an important opportunity to discuss practical steps to ensure that survivors are placed at the forefront of our collective efforts to eradicate these grave violations once and for all in line with the new Charter of the Rights of Victims and Survivors of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

This exhibition showcases the remarkable strength and courage of individuals who have endured unimaginable hardships yet continue to inspire and persevere.

The exhibition will run until September 4th.
