“Portraits of Resilience” features in OPENEYE Magazine

“Portraits of Resilience” features in the current edition of OPENEYE Magazine, the most widely read free webphotomagazine in the photography community.
“Portraits of Resilience” was exhibited at the United Nation’s Palais des Nations in Geneva, earlier this year. “Portraits of Resilience” features photographs of survivors of torture from around the world who fled their home countries seeking safety, recovery, and political asylum. The work was created in collaboration with TASSC International.
Survivors are the strongest and most effective voice in the campaign to abolish torture.
Not all survivors want to be recognised for fear of repercussions to their friends and family. Each survivor selected a photograph that was significant to them and part of their story. The photograph was then projected over the individual, sometimes obscuring their identity as per their request.
The portraits ask viewers to look beyond pre-conceived notions about refugees and asylum seekers and see them as individuals with very human connections to place and home.
OPENEYE, is today’s view of photography in an interactive online magazine with a readership of over 25,000 people and growing. Its purpose is to showcase creativity and share information to develop our photographic culture.
OPENEYE is a team of about fifteen people that has been formed over the years, around the 2 founders of the magazine, Philippe Litzler and Pierre Evrard.
