Six New Portraits Printed

Exhibition, Humanitarian

I recently picked up six new portraits for the upcoming “Portraits of Resilience” event at the External Action Services headquarters in Brussels, to mark 26 June, International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Genesis Metro have been supporting my humanitarian exhibitions for a number of years. They are one of Europe’s leading professional photographic labs for art printing, film processing, retouch, mounting, framing and exhibition services.

I worked with the retoucher Manish Patel to ensure the six new portraits were consistent with the wider series, then oversaw the final stage of printing.

The pictures are Dibond mounted onto a composite display material comprising two sheets of archival quality thin aluminium with a thermoplastic core and an aluminium sub-frame added for hanging.

“Portraits of Resilience” is a personal project that I started ten years ago. Since then, I have photographed more than forty portraits from over twenty countries, documenting their incredible stories.

The series has been exhibited at the Phillips Collection in Washington DC, the Global Migration and Development Summit in Geneva, the United Nation’s Palais des Nations and now the headquarters of the EEAS in Brussels.

I am always looking to expand the series and work with new organisations and survivors. It is a unique survivor-centred approach of storytelling which allows each survivor the option of speaking anonymously. The six new portraits are part of a collaboration with REDRESS and Freedom from Torture.
