The Global Migration and Development Summit in Geneva
The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is the world’s largest informal, non-binding, voluntary and government-led process on migration. The 14th GFMD Summit, chaired by France focuses on the overarching theme “From environmental concerns to cultural aspects of migration: adopting an inclusive approach to meet the challenges and increases the opportunities for human mobility”.
I was invited to speak about my humanitarian photography and show the “Portraits of Resilience” work at the Centre International de Conférences Genève last week between 23rd and 26th of January. Portraits of Resilience features photographs of survivors from around the world who fled their home countries seeking safety, recovery, and political asylum.
The GFMD was created upon the proposal of the UN Secretary-General at the September 2006 General Assembly High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development. Its main purpose is to address, in a transparent manner, the multidimensional aspects, opportunities and challenges related to international migration and its inter-linkages with development, to bring together government expertise from all regions, to enhance dialogue and cooperation and partnership and to foster practical and action-oriented outcomes at the national, regional, and global levels.
