“Portraits of Resilience” event
Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “Portraits of Resilience” will be at the centre of an event organised during the week of International Human Rights Day, to reflect on and support the courage of victims and survivors who stand up for their rights and communities.
The UK Mission to the EU and the European External Action Service (EEAS) are hosting “Portraits of Resilience”, an exhibition and panel discussion at the British Residence in Brussels.
The panel will be moderated by Eugenia Andreyuk, co-head of OMCT Europe, and features, Kajsa Ollongren, EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Emma Green, FCDO Deputy Head of Human Rights Department, Léonce Byimana, Director of U.S Clinical Programs at the Centre for Victims of Torture, and Lisa Henry, Secretary-General of International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims who will be discussing a victim-centred approach: putting the rights, safety, and wellbeing of survivors at the heart of prevention, accountability, and rehabilitation.
I will be presenting “Portraits of Resilience” and talking about my approach to the work.
“Portraits of Resilience” features photographs of survivors of torture from around the world who fled their home countries seeking safety, recovery, and political asylum.
Survivors are the strongest and most effective voice in the campaign to abolish torture.
“Portraits of Resilience” is a long-term art campaign in association with ‘TASSC International’, ‘Freedom From Torture’, and ‘Redress’. I am always looking to expand the series and collaborate with new organisations.
