The timing of interior photography
It is rare for me to return to a commercial offices and photograph the space a second time. But in the case of this spectacular headquarters in London, I was asked to capture the interior for the end client after they had “settled in”.
The timing of interior photography has a determining factor on the final pictures. Too early and you are working around the usual snagging trades of a building site, missing features or incomplete spaces. Equally if you go in further down the line then you are contending with personal items on desks plus any wear and tear.
This was an impressive office that I was happy to revisit. The project encompassed 24,000 sq ft over two floors and was project managed by CBRE with tp bennett as the architects and Overbury as the fitout company. The reception area has been designed as an open plan area to receive clients as well as doubling up as an events space. There is a stone-clad pedestal drinks facility with a relaxed seating area that looks out onto a balcony with views across London. On each side of the seating area there are private meeting rooms with furniture supplied by Spacecraft.
The lighting has been carefully designed around the natural light flooding in from the end wall, with a mixture of functional spots, feature wall sconces and an Equilibrista suspension lamp by Luigi Volpi above the reception desk. The flooring was supplied and installed by Loughton Contracts.
There is a minimalist approach to the design with an emphasis on high-quality materials and finishes. It has the right balance of sophistication and professionalism, presenting the company as being well established in its industry and forward-thinking.
