London is the second greenest city in the world

Architecture, General

Wherever you are living / working in London, one thing unites everyone – access to nature is never far away. In a recent survey London was ranked second greenest city in the world just behind Tokyo. Around 20% of London is public green space, and when you add in gardens, green roofs, and even verges, over 50% of the city is classed as green when viewed from above.

There is an abundance of outdoor space that offers more than just a scenic stroll. It plays a vital role in healthy living, wellbeing, community building, and creating a sense of a place to live and work.

To be able to step out of your office, conference / meeting room, or to be able to have your lunch break in the open air, enhances employer wellbeing contributing to a healthier and more productive work environment.

So, when I wrote in my previous post about returning to a commercial offices to photograph the space for a second time (this time for the end client), in actual fact I returned for a third time to capture the outside balcony space in the summer when the skies were blue, and the trees were green.

The project encompassed 24,000 sq ft over two floors and was project managed by CBRE with tp bennett as the architects and Overbury as the fitout company. The reception and meeting room floor is wrapped with outside space. There are balconies on either side of the building that are accessed from the reception / entertainment space and boardroom. The building is also flanked on two sides by long terraces covered with pergolas that you can access from the meeting rooms or reception area.

The office floor contains two large balconies that are accessed from the canteen area and a breakout area.

These spaces are regularly used for social events, lunch breaks, and taking work outside … weather permitting!
